On April 5, 2017, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, visited the biological wastewater treatment facilities of PJSC "Nizhnekamskneftekhim". Revamping of the mechanical unit for cleaning utility fluids had been completed at the end of the last year.
This mechanical unit is designed for the reclaiming, treatment and disposal of garbage, which comes with utility fluids, as well as collection and neutralization of harmful and offensive odors released by waste products during their treatment.
Revamping of this unit for mixing domestic and chemical wastewaters allowed eliminating preliminary setting tank and sewage regulator from the previous processing route. Now, after aerated grit chamber, the effluents are immediately sent to a mixer for household and chemically contaminated effluents and then to the biological treatment through the switching chamber.
Gases and fumes from the surface of the effluents are decomposed into water and carbon dioxide in the gas cleaning units which are now installed on the sand trap and the mixer unit.
The implementation of the First Stage of the Revamping Project made it possible to enhance efficiency of mechanical cleaning and reduce the load on the biological treatment unit, as well as to reduce the emissions of pollutants with an unpleasant odor into the atmosphere and, at the same time, to increase the extraction efficiency of mechanical impurities from domestic sewage. The analysis showed that now suspended matter and garbage with a size of 5 mm are trapped from the sewage. In addition, unlike the previous processing route, the domestic organics are kept in run-offs to a maximum; impurities are washed out from sand, which improve quality of the subsequent biological treatment. Expenditures for revamping the First Stage of the biological treatment unit amounted to 667 Million Rubles.
The Second Stage of the biological treatment unit revamping provides for the renovation of the mechanical treatment unit for chemically contaminated effluents. Additional equipment will be introduced in the processing route: a pool for skimming polymer chips and a flotation unit for removal organic substances from the waste water before biological treatment. Refurbishment units will be airtight and also equipped with "Yatagan" units for killing unpleasant odors.
In 2018, it is planned to begin construction of a new sewage conduit for industrial effluents (Chemically polluted effluents-3) with a diameter of 1.2 meter and a total length of 13 km - from the Industrial Estate to the Biological Treatment Plant, which will run away from the human settlements at a considerable distance.
Estimated costs for the Second Stage of revamp, including Chemically Polluted Effluents-3 Project are about 2.5 Billion Rubles.
The weighing station of the Second Industrial Zone of the Company is put into operation in PJSC “Nizhnekamskneftekhim”.
Despite the territorial belonging to Ethylene Oxide Plant, the motor transport carrying products of Oligomer, Styrene and Polyester Resins Plants, as well as metal scrap from all the plants of the second industrial site will be also weighed here.
The new weighing station, as well as the one started in 2016 in the First Industrial Zone, is equipped up to the state of the art. The checkweigher is capable of determining not only the weight of up to 80 tons, but also the axle load of a vehicle.
It is planned that the new weighing station will be servicing not less than 30 heavy duty vehicles per day.
n the XIV international conference “Polyethylene. Polypropylene-2017” held in Moscow on March 21, 2017, Marat Fatykhov, the Head of Department for promotion of polymers – Head of Department for advertising and exhibitions, made the report on the corporate strategy of polyolefin production and on the development of the new product grades in PJSC “Nizhnekamskneftekhim”.
Within last 3 years, PJSC “Nizhnekamskneftekhim” significantly increased the proportion of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) in polyethylene production. While in 2014 the amount of produced LLDPE was 16 thousand tons only, in 2016 it already reached 74 thousand tons. The Company is planning to continue the production increase of this polyethylene type up to 100 thousand tons per year. In this respect, in 2017 the Company is going to develop a new grade – РЕ5118N, which will be used in fabrication of blown film and film lamination, apart from the basic polyethylene grade, designated for stretch film production. Moreover, the Company is planning to continue the development of rotational molding market. For this purpose, in the grade range there are 3 grades of medium density polyethylene: РЕ6432R, РЕ6438R and РЕ6438Ѕ.
In cooperation with two Russian Companies PJSC “Nizhnekamskneftekhim” is involved in the development of the market of polyethylene used for steel pipe insulation. Several domestic plants already use grade РЕ6146КМ successfully. A pilot batch of new grade РЕ6347К for shield application on power cable was produced in December 2016 and several cable production plants perform the tests of this grade now.
At present time, the Company decreases the production of propylene homopolymer and focuses on the copolymers production. By the end of 2016, the proportion of propylene and ethylene copolymers reached 86% of the total amount of polypropylene. The main directions in the development of copolymer production – improvement of melt flow index and upgrading of impact properties and physical-mechanical characteristics.
Within last 2 years the Company arranged stable sales of two grades with high melt flow index – РР4445Т (random) and РР8440Т (block copolymer), as well as unique grade РР9240N with high ethylene content (15%) and higher melt flow index.
Nowadays the specialists of Plastics Plant and R&D Center of PJSC “Nizhnekamskneftekhim” develop a new direction for Russian polypropylene producers – bimodal block copolymer, which is required in car industry and rigid packaging production.
Additionally, was underlined the success of scientific activity in Nizhnekamsk performed by specialists of Plastics Plant in the field of application of alternative catalysts for propylene polymerization.
