At the Polyethylene Production Unit of the Plastic Plant of PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim, work was completed to change the catalyst in the Adsorber at the Ethylene Purification Unit. This equipment was installed in workshop No. 5807 in 2012 and is intended to purify monomer, the major raw material for the production of polyethylene.
The change of the catalyst is associated with the end of catalyst service life. Its refilling is a long and laborious process. For safety, an additional purge and decontamination of spent catalysts with hot nitrogen and air is carried out before unloading. The usage of fresh catalyst is also accompanied by the obligatory dehydration of residual moisture by hot nitrogen.
The catalyst system itself consists of three types of cleaning agents. One type of the catalysts is intended for purification of raw materials from sulfur-containing compounds, arsines and phosphines, the other two are for purification of acetylenic and diene compounds, as well as residual oxygen.
Change of the catalysts will improve the purity and quality of ethylene entering the polymerization section, which in turn will positively affect the quality of the produced polyethylene and reduce the consumption rates of raw materials.
PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim joins the international campaign "Garden of Memory 2020", organized in honor of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The purpose of this event, according to the idea of its initiators, is to make a living monument to each of the victims, by planting 27 million trees across the country.
In support of this idea, Nizhnekamskneftekhim launched a number of projects. On the eve of Victory Day, May 8, Nizhnekamskneftekhim will conduct a large-scale planting of trees along the Sobolekovskaya highway. On this day, it is planned to plant 75 pine seedlings. Young activists of the Сompany made a proposal for those who live in private houses or in the country, to plant a tree or bush in their own area too, and devote the action to their family hero (participant in the Great Patriotic War). You can take part in the action while at home - by drawing a tree, making crafts or application, devoting to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. In late April, two production units of the Oligomers and Glycols Plant of PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim celebrated 40 years from the date of receipt of the first product. We are talking about the production of Ethylene Oxide and Monoethylene Glycol.
April 28, 1980 was the starting point in the history of the Ethylene Oxide Plant. On this day, 40 years ago, production unit No. 1 of Ethylene Oxide, workshop No. 2405, was put into operation. Moreover, in 2 days, on April 30, 1980, petrochemical engineers received the first products of workshop No. 2406 - Monoethylene Glycol (MEG). These events were preceded by a long and hard work on the design, construction and commissioning of these industries.
A year later, in May 1981, the production of Ethyl Cellosolve was commissioned at Nizhnekamsk-neftekhim. The petrochemical staff mastered the technological process at the new production facility rather quickly, and one year later the workshop steadily produced 5 types of products.
In 1985, MEG production reached its maximum output of over 71 KTA. Thanks to the revamp of existing equipment, carried out in 1986 thru 1989, the factory workers were able to increase production capacity to 81 KTA.
Monoethyleneglycol produced at Nizhnekamskneftekhim complies with the International Standards. The method of its production, developed by the plant’s specialists together with scientists of the Scientific and Technological Center, received a patent from the Russian Federation, and it was recognized as the best invention of 2002. In 2004, the production of MEG of the highest grade made over 111 KTA.
Work on improving the quality of products goes on. Thus, in 2014 and 2016, these facilities underwent a change of automation equipment. The modernization of the columns at the production of Ethyl Cellosolve allowed to reduce energy consumption by 10 to 15% too. In addition, from Ethylene Glycols and Ethyl Cellosolve waste, which previously has been burned, the workshop began to produce a Dehumidifier for gas producers, and a Dust Suppressor for Potassium salts, being now in great demand among consumers.
Ethylene glycol is used in the manufacture of synthetic fibers, resins, solvents, low-freezing and hydraulic fluids. Ethyl Cellosolve is used in chemical, medical, defense, and paint and varnish industries.
Ethylcarbitol is used for the production of esters, the preparation of brake and special hydraulic fluids.
The Elastomer Research Laboratory of PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim celebrates the 50th Anniversary this year. It was founded in the Scientific and Technological Center in 1970; its employees took an active part in the launch of production of SKI-3 Isoprene Rubber.
In further years, the laboratory people, together with manufacturers, mastered the production of new types of rubbers SKD-K, Neodymium Polybutadiene Rubber (SKD-N), Lithium Polybutadiene Rubber SKD-L, Styrene Butadiene Synthetic Rubber (SSBR)-2012. During this period, the importance of laboratory testing has greatly increased; the quality of rubber and products based on them depended on the accuracy of the tests.
Nowadays the team of the Research Laboratory of Elastomers works on the tasks associated with the development of the Polymer Group of production at Nizhnekamskneftekhim - this is the engineering and implementation of new technologies, as well as scientific and technical support of the industries in operation.
Currently, laboratory staff, together with the SK plant, are working on improvement of the performance of SKI-3, SKDL and SSBR-2012 brands of rubber. In close cooperation with specialists from the Chief Process Engineer Department and pilot plant No. 112, they work on technologies for producing high-performance butadiene and styrene-butadiene brands of rubber.
This year, the manufacturers and employees of the Elastomer Laboratory have an important task - the industrial development of the technology for obtaining Functionalized SSBR for modern high-tech tires.
April marks 25 years since the date of commissioning at PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim production of Alkaline Polyethers (PPShch). The production of these products began in workshop No. 6711 at the Plant of Oligomers and Glycols.
Start-up of the production of PPShch fell on the 90s, marked by the collapse of the USSR and the decline of industry. A solid production base and reliable labor traditions helped to survive the difficult time and continue the development of Nizhnekamskneftekhim.
Production of PCA started basing on the existing at that time workshop for the production of Nonionic Surfactants (nonionic surfactants) intended for the production of Hydroxyethylated Alkyl Phenols - Neonols. They have been produced according to the Project and on the Equipment of an Italian Company since 1987. However because neonol production has not have its design throughput, the management of Nizhnekamskneftekhim decided in 1995 to increase the range of ethoxylated products. For this purpose, specialists of the Company's Scientific-Technological and Design Centers developed basic data for the design and reconstruction of one of the three reactor blocks for the production of neonols.Currently, the production of PPShch works at a design capacity of 10 KTA. The main area of their application is the production of reagents, demulsifiers of oil. PPShch is in demand among domestic consumers and the CIS countries.
In the year of celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War it is planned to open two social facilities in PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim - the shooting room "Neftekhimik" and the Museum of the Great Patriotic War. During the enterprise visit Ruslan Shigabutdinov, the general director of JSC TAIF, inspected their readiness. He was accompanied by Airat Safin, the General Director of PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim.
First, the guests visited Neftekhimik shooting range building, the reconstruction of which began in 2019 under the instruction of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim, Ruslan Shigabutdinov. In the building constructed in the territory of the enterprise more than 40 years ago, repair and restoration works were carried out during the year.
New shooting complex is built in accordance with the requirements of GOST, SNiP, as well as regulations and standards of the Russian Federation on the setup of a shooting range. It consists of three sections designed for target practical archery, crossbow, pneumatic weapon and interactive armament. A meal room, a first-aid post, a cloak room and an armory are also equipped in the building. According to experts, the shooting range of the Company is one of the best in the Volga region.
First of all, the Company employees will be able to attend renewed shooting range to develop shooting skills and prepare for competitions in sports and applied military sports. Shooting training in Neftekhimik will also be available to schoolchildren and students.
Then the managers visited the museum of the Great Patriotic War, which was created on the initiative of Olga Lantsova, the commander of the search squad Neftekhimik. Unused facilities were adapted for future museum building, which was redeveloped and overhauled. Currently, putting exhibits on view as well as room set up has been completed in the museum. Most of the exhibits are genuine unique finds discovered by the scouts of Neftekhimik squad during search expeditions to the sites of fierce battles. “Nobody is forgotten, nothing is forgotten” - this motto is followed by the members of the search squad, fulfilling their important mission.
Following the visit the general director of JSC TAIF noted that a lot of work has been done by petrochemists.
- The city is worth of a good museum. As agreed, all work should be carried out strictly according to plan. There is a great desire to support all this movement in all directions. “Moreover, if there is such concernment in people, dedication to our history, until the last dead soldier in the Great Patriotic War is buried, we have not finished this war”, added Ruslan Shigabutdinov.
Today, President R. Minnikhanov visited the Company production facilities. The head of the Republic was accompanied by Ruslan Shigabutdinov, the general director of JSC TAIF, the chairman of the board of directors of PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim, Airat Safin, the general director of PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim, Aidar Metshin, Nizhnekamsk mayor. During the trip, the officials examined the business units, took up with the staff.
One of the first facilities attended was isoprene-monomer plant. The delegation visited isoprene production section. This product is required for making synthetic rubber. In 2019, revamp was completed here, which allowed to increase isoprene output to 333 th. tons per year. R. Minnikhanov was informed of the current situation, measures to prevent coronaviral contagion, including change-over to non-contact shift hand-over.
The next point of the program was the construction site of the new ethylene complex (EP-600), which will produce ethylene, propylene, butadiene, benzene, as well as related petrochemical products. The Company’s general director, A. Safin, told Rustam Minnikhanov about the preparatory work for large-scale construction on a closed viewing platform, located on the top of the office building of the plant under construction. The general contractor, Turkish company Gemont, under special regime conditions conducts preparations for: a construction site, a shift camp, a base for receiving equipment and materials, temporary roads and electric lighting. In order to minimize contacts, the access of contractors to the territory of the Company is limited.
Then Rustam Minnikhanov visited ethylene plant, where he examined new cracking heaters. A total of 18 heaters were installed at the plant. Two of them, new SRT-VI type, were commissioned in 2018, which allowed to increase the reliability of the heater block, reduce fuel gas consumption and lower the amount of flue gas emissions into the atmosphere. The launch of two new heaters, coupled with the existing ones, assisted the plant laborers by the end of 2019 to achieve record volumes of ethylene output - up to 618 th. tons, and also propylene - up to 302 th. tons. In total, nearly 2 million tons of raw materials were processed. Ethylene, propylene, butadiene, benzene and other products obtained in the process are used for our own production units to make rubbers and plastics.
Following inspection the production sites, Rustam Minnikhanov held a briefing-meeting in VCC mode in the Company’s central office. First of all, A. Safin, the Director General, reported on the work of the company: today the process sections of the main plants function in a routine model, production activities are carried out in accordance with the approved plan, the business units are fully provided with raw materials and utilities. However, due to coronaviral pandemic, the situation in the world and in the Company is currently complicated. Demand for all types of synthetic rubber decreased. And this is the most important export potential of the company.
The Company follows all recommendations to prevent coronaviral contagion. Sanitization of the territory and premises is carried out, the employees are provided with protective masks, gloves, antiseptics. A part of the daily staff was transferred to the remote mode of operation, specialists: 60 years and older - on the self-isolation. In order to avoid crowd of people, changes to the shift schedules were made, meetings are held in VCC mode.
The executives reported about the situation at the most important strategic facilities. These days, a subsidiary, JSC Polimatiz is working intensively, where non-woven material for protective masks is output. 28 tons of material are produced here per day. In addition, from April 13, they began to sew masks. The capacity of this production line is 2.5 million pieces of medical masks per month.
Under normal conditions, water treatment unit and biological treatment facilities are operating. In addition to indoor cleansing, disinfection of pavements, sites and access roads is carried out.
Precautionary measures are observed at construction sites - CCGT-TPS and SSBR plant. At both facilities, all daily meetings are transferred online through the videoconferencing system. The required access control with sanitary conditions is fully ensured.
Also, the President of RT was informed of additional measures for the non-proliferation of coronaviral infection. Contractors are transported by separate vehicles. A separate checkpoint is set up to inspect employees and non-contact measure temperature, monitor the staff condition during the working day. All employees are provided with medical masks and antiseptics.
A routine examination for COVID-19 of the Company employees and its subsidiaries is performed. The clinic and health posts are equipped with all the things needed to prevent coronaviral contagion; additional epidemiological response has been introduced.
Summing up the visit to the Company, RT President, Rustam Minnikhanov noted the timeliness of the measures taken and pointed out the need to continue this work. The most principal task in this period is to do everything possible for staff retention and production potential.
Amid coronaviral contagion, PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim is contributing to the resupply of currently scarce medical masks.
Today, the protective means manufactured by the Company were received by Nizhnekamsk central district multi- field hospital. About 6 thousand masks were handed over to health professionals.
Employees of the company, working remotely and having sewing skills, supported the call for making masks at home. To this end, the company provided everyone with necessary raw materials - non-woven material, threads and elastic bands. Every day, volunteers from among the young staff of the company form kits, deliver them to addresses and pick up finished products. In total, from April 6 to 10, 2020, 32 670 personal protective equipment were manufactured. Masks are distributed to employees of the company, as well as to veterans, volunteers and employees on a social mission and in contact with a large number of people. The organization of mask tailoring, as well as their transfer, is supervised by HR department of the company. Such initiative is a good example of how employees work together to withstand a dangerous virus.
Today, the commissioning of the automated line of PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim for the production of medical masks is actively ongoing. It was mounted in a short time. On April 10, equipment arrived from China to Kazan Airport on “ Ruslan” aircraft, and today the production process is being set up, all mechanisms for the production of high-quality and such demanded products are being adjusted.
