Energy saving is the priority focus for PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim which amid the power sector reform, rising utilities prices is a significant internal reserve that would significantly increase not only its own production but also the gross regional product.
The Company is the largest consumer of energy among the industrial enterprises of Tatarstan consuming 9.2% of electrical power and 29.2% of thermal energy generated by the entire power system of the Republic of Tatarstan.
In 2013, the Company consumed 2.56 billion kWh of electricity amounting to 5.15 billion rubles, 14 million Gcal of thermal energy to the amount of 8.73 billion rubles and 564.14 million m3 of natural gas amounting to 2.13 billion rubles. The total acquisition cost of these utilities amounted to RUR 16 billion inclusive of VAT.
PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim successfully implemented the First and Second energy saving programs. Measures introduced within the framework of the programs have facilitated the decrease in the expenditure on the energy imports, yearly reduction of utilities consumption rates per unit of output.
418 energy saving operations have been undertaken in the course of the first program (2000 to 2005). Savings were: 1.6 m Gcal of heat energy, 112 m kWh of electric power and 77 thousand tons of reference fuel. The economic effect was RUR 632.3 million in terms of money.
During implementation of the second energy saving program (2006 to 2010) 457 activities have been performed. Savings were: 3.5 m Gcal of heat energy, 127 m kWh of electric power and 79 thousand tons of reference fuel. The economic effect is RUB 2.7 billion.
To reduce energy costs and to make products more competitive in August 2007 PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim commissioned a cogeneration gas-turbine Unit GTU-75 representing an innovative technology with high technical and economic performance and contributing to higher reliability and maneuvering ability of the Nizhnekamsk thermal power plant power equipment. From 2007 through 2013 GTU-75 generated 3.1 billion kWh of electrical power and 5.2 million Gcal of thermal energy.
To enhance reliability in energy supply the Company replaces the old electrical equipment control boards (0.4 kV) with Siemens control boards. This Program has been implemented since 2005 and is scheduled till 2016. Replacement of 250 control boards and 27 distribution substations and transformer substations is envisaged.
Over the period of 2005-2013, 162 (0.4 kV) control boards were replaced at butyl rubber, synthetic rubber, isoprene monomer, ethylene, ethylene oxide, divinyl & hydrocarbon feed plants, oligomer plant, sewage & waste-water treatment facilities, utilities supply systems, as well as 12A distribution stations and transformer substation-74 mounted at butyl rubber plant and 6 kV indoor switchgear at treatment facilities.
As part of this program old converters and control boards have been replaced with Siemens equipment on rubber finishing lines. Converters, bailing press control boards and control stations have been replaced on 13 finishing lines.
In 2011 under the Federal Law No. 261 FZ "On energy saving" the Energy saving technology centre under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Tatarstan Republic has carried out the third survey (energy audit) on account of which "Power certificate of industrial consumer of fuel-energy resources of PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim" valid until 2016 has been worked out and issued.
Additionally within the program on cost saving for energy purchased according to retail electricity market rules the activities to introduce PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim to wholesale market for electricity and power via OOO PEST sales Company have been performed and since July 1, 2012 the Company purchases electricity at the wholesale market for electricity and power. The economic effect in 2013 was RUB 189 million inclusive of VAT.
In 2012 automated informative electric power accounting system was formed.
Presently the third energy saving program is implemented at PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim intended for the period from 2011 to 2015, and until 2020 in the long view.
The program includes 246 energy saving activities. The estimated economy would be 367 million kwh of electrical power and 878 thousand Gcal of heat energy, and 47.5 thousand tons of fuel equivalent.
In the course of implementation of the third program in 2011 – 2013, 184 energy saving operations have been performed and 386 thousand Gcal of thermal energy was saved as well as 67 million kwh of electric power and 34.1 thousand tons of fuel equivalent.
Achievements of the Company in the field of energy saving were noted by awards at the federal and republican levels.
In April 2013, PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim was awarded the Grand Prix for significant achievements in the field of energy saving among the companies of the petrochemical complex of Russia following the results of XI Moscow International Energy Forum and the exhibition "Oil and Energy of Russia in XXI century" that was part of it.
