Sport at OAO “Nizhnekamskneftekhim” is highly popular since the very beginning of the Petrochemical Complex construction.
Joint activities of the Administration, Labor Union, Sports Club of the Company are aimed, first of all, at implementing a systemized approach to application of physical training and sports both at the production site and in the everyday life of the petrochemical personnel. The Company has adopted “Basic Ways to Advance Physical Training & Sports at OAO “Nizhnekamskneftekhim” for 2006-2010”, which objectives and targets are to:
- create conditions to go in for physical training and sports;
- apply physical training at work and thus, increase labor productivity;
- shape a sound collective of NKNK employees both in a physical and moral way due to physical training;
- create conditions to train high qualification sportsmen.
OAO “Nizhnekamskneftekhim” has up-to-date sports facilities incorporating:
- Sports Complex “Neftekhimik” (Petrochemist) with a football pitch, race tracks, heavy athletics hall;
- 2 Ice-Hockey Centres to seat 2,200 and 5,500;
- Complex “Friendship” with a sports hall, swimming pool, chess & checkers club, football pitch, ice-hockey pitch, fitness hall and race-track;
- Sports Hall “Torch”;
- Ice-hockey pitches at the Town residential communities;
- Trap-shooting and Bullet-shooting galleries;
- Ski Lodge “Almash” (Generation Next) with 600 pairs of plastic skis.
Sports competitions are also arranged at Recreation Centre “Leafy Grove”, Ski Lodge “Youth”, Sports and Recreation Centre “Olympian”.
Furthermore, the Company personnel have an opportunity to make use of stadiums, sports halls, swimming pools belonging to the educational institutions supported by OAO “Nizhnekamskneftekhim”. 21 physical training instructors work in the Company subdivisions.
To make the process of involving the personnel in regular physical training and sports more active, every year the Company arranges contests for the best popular sports and physical training-recreational activities among the Plant and Unit personnel, for the best athlete of OAO “Nizhnekamskneftekhim”.
12,193 employees took part in 56 events of the Traditional Sports & Athletes Games of OAO “Nizhnekamskneftekhim” in 2008. The best in the 1st category (over 500 employees) proved to be the personnel of Divinyl & Hydrocarbon Feed Plant, Butyl Rubber Plant, Styrene & Polyether Resin Plant; in the 2nd category – the personnel of Polystyrene Plant, Design Centre and Research & Technology Centre. The Company athletes and sportsmen have been frequent winners of the highest-level sporting events. Over the last 8 years, a combined team of OAO “Nizhnekamskneftekhim” irremovably ranks first at the Sports & Athletes Games sponsored by the TR Chemical Industries Labor Union. The Company skiing team became champion in “Youth Ski-Run’2008” among the TR chemical and service industries. NKNK athletes and sportsmen ranked first as a team at the Sports & Athletes Games among the TR working young people, which took place in Al’met’yevsk Town in September 2008.
2,583 NKNK employees and their family members took part in the winter competition “All for Skiing”; 2,216 employees – in the All-Russian Race Day "Cross-Country Race of Nations’2008". 500 NKNK personnel took part in the “Ski-Run of Russia’2008” event.

Activities
Sports Club “Neftekhimik” (Petrochemist) is engaged in physical training-recreational and popular sports activities, sports activities with children at their residential communities, training sports reserve, high qualification sportsmen.
Structure
- Organizational Department steers activities of 21 professional methodologist-coaches and 18 public sport organizers in the subdivisions of OAO “Nizhnekamskneftekhim”;
- Sports Reserve Training Centre coordinates activities of the specialized children-youth's schools of Olympic reserve (they are two) and the central sections for 10 kinds of sports;
- Highest Sport Skill Centre trains high qualification sportsmen.
History
Sports at OAO “Nizhnekamskneftekhim” practically emerged at the very beginning of the Petrochemical Complex construction. In 1966, physical training and sports at the Company acquired an organizational status, when the first sports manager was appointed.
In 1968, Sports Hall “Torch” was inaugurated, which turned to be a sports activity centre for the petrochemical personnel. That very same year, soccer and ice hockey teams “Neftekhimik” were formed.
In 1973, the first children-youth's sports school was inaugurated: for ski race and track-and-field athletics.
In 1976, Children's Sports and Recreation Centre “Olympian” played host to the first vacationists.
In 1978, Stadium “Neftekhimik” was provided for sportsmen and coaches. That very same year, Sports Unit of OAO “Nizhnekamskneftekhim” was honored with a sports club status for high achievements in its activities.
In 1987, two new sports schools at Sports Club were inaugurated: for ice hockey and wrestling.
In 1995, Ice-Hockey Centre was inaugurated.
In 2005, another Ice-Hockey Centre to seat 5,500 was inaugurated.
Children's Sport
Nearly 2,000 children are frequenting sports sections at the Children-Youth's Sport School and the Children-Youth's Sport School of Olympic Reserve (for ski race, track-and-field athletics, wrestling, ice-hockey, football, free calisthenics, boxing, swimming). 53 instructor-coaches train them.
Coaches of Sports Club “Neftekhimik” keep running 8 ice-hockey pitches at the general education schools, frequented by children from the neighboring residential communities. Young sportsmen of the Children-Youth's Sport School of Olympic Reserve are regular participants and prizewinners in the Tatarstan Republic , Russian Federation multiple sporting events.
Achievements of Centres for Training Sports Reserve and High Qualification Sportsmen in 2008
Nizhnekamsk School of Olympic Reserve has raised sportsmen who presently play in the Continental Ice-Hockey League: Il'shat Bilalov for “Neftekhimik” team, Maxim Pestushko and Pavel Valentenko for “Dynamo” ( Moscow ), Eugene Muratov for “Sibir'” ( Novosibirsk ), Aleksei Ugarov for Hockey Club MVD. 28 ice-hockey alumni of the Children-Youth's Sport School of Olympic Reserve play for various teams in the Major League. S. Budylin plays for “Wings of Soviets” team (Samara) in the Premier-League.
