Nizhnekamskneftekhim began production of
halogenated butyl rubbers, which are chemically modified
butyl rubbers, produced by introduction of a halogen (chlorine
or bromine) in the polymer chain. In reaction conditions
only the isoprene chain of butyl rubber macromolecule is
halogenated, all polyisobutylene chains are left unmodified.
RUBBER MAIN FATURES
• Rubbers are odorless and do not emit
any harmful substances during storage and processing;
• Halogenation substantially increases
butyl rubber vulcanization speed in comparison to unmodified
rubber;
• Halogenated butyl rubbers are characterized
by high level of covulcanization with high-saturation rubbers;
Chlorine mass content, % 1.15 - 1.35
Bromine mass content, % 1.8 - 2.2
Modulus at 300% elongation, MPa, min. 4
Tensile strength, MPa, min. 12 - 15
Elongation at break, %, min. 400
HALOBUTYL RUBBER BASED RUBBERS AND ARTICLES MAIN
FEATURES
Low gas impermeability and high dynamic
stability of halobutyl rubbers cap layer in tubeless tires
allow for 50-200% increase in tire life
Physical, mechanical and attrition resistance
properties of radial tire sidewall rubbers are at standard
levels
Excellent ozone and crack resistance even
after multiple deformations allow to produce high quality
rubbers
High heat resistance of halobutyl rubber
vulcanizates allows to use it in curing bag production
Compounded rubbers based on halobutyl rubber,
and especially on bromobutyl rubber, posses better adhesion
compared to those based on butyl rubber, and bond strength
doesn't depend on content of high-unsaturated rubber in
the compound
Halogenated butyl rubbers are successfully
used for production of high quality rubber-technical articles,
namely:
- molded items;
- heat-resistant conveyer belts (high bonding
strength with
synthetic cords, high attrition resistance);
- chemically stable container coatings
(chemical stability, possibility of low temperature vulcanization);
- corks for pharmaceuticals (simple non-toxic
vulcanized systems).
