Today, cheaper and more available coke benzene is purchased instead of untreated one.
Last year, the Ethylene Plant yielded 165 000 tons of pure benzene to produce styrene. However, that amount is still not sufficient. Furthermore, untreated benzene, which practically to be refined as marketable benzene, has become scarce and expensive, and its regular supplier from Salavat city in Bashkiriya is erecting one's own styrene plant. Thus emerged the idea to utilize coke (coal) benzene as feedstock.
Coke benzene treatment being a troublesome process turned out to be an obvious advantage: each ton of such feedstock yields 900-950 kg of pure benzene. These reasonable figures pushed to signing a long-term agreement on supply of relatively cheap coke benzene from the Altay region.
